Chelsea is understood to be considering a move to bring Shanghai SIPG forward Asamoah Gyan back to the Premier League although the Ghana captain will have to accept a pay-cut to make the deal a reality. The Ghana international featured for Sunderland earlier in his career—making a big impact in the EPL with a series of powerful, explosive displays—before leaving the European game to chase petrodollars in the United Arab Emirates with Al Ain FC before moving to Shanghai SIPG.

Injuries have affected the forward’s progress in the Chinese Super League, where he’s struggled to have the desired impact, despite earning a mooted $350,000, a fee which made him the sixth best-paid player in the world when he moved to the Far East. Shanghai are already lining up Zenit St. Petersburg hitman Hulk as a possible replacement for Gyan and are looking to offload the Ghana frontman, either on a permanent or a temporary basis.

Caught Offside sources have revealed that Chelsea have been alerted of the forward’s availability, and are considering offering him a route back to Western Europe, although the Pensioners are unlikely to match his current earnings. The 30-year-old still has some good years left at the top level—if he can overcome his recent injury concerns—and would be an ideal upgrade on the likes of Loic Remy, Radamel Falcao and Alex Pato, all of whom have been tipped for the exit door this summer.
