Dancehall artiste MzVee made history last week as the first female Ghanaian act to nab the ‘Best International Act Africa’ nomination at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards. She got the nod ahead of E.L, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, leading to some industry personalities and music fans questioning the choice.

In recent years, ‘Artiste of the Year’ winners usually get nominated in the ‘Best International Act Africa’ category at the BET Awards. E.L, who is the current ‘Artiste of the year’ believes that the ‘Natural Girl’ will represent Ghana well at the awards scheme. “MzVee is going to represent Ghana as heavily as she can.

” He told Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) during an interview on Route919 on Live FM Friday afternoon. He did admit that he was ‘initially’ disappointed he didn’t get nominated. “Initially… Once you win Artiste of the Year, people…Its all eyes on you. I’m just trying as much as possible to keep calm because you have people coming at you from all angles about different things.”

 Listen to interview below.
Mzvee will be competing against South Africans AKA, Cassper Nyovest and Black Coffee, Nigerians Wizkid and Yemi Alade, Tanzanian Diamond Platinumz and Ivorian Serge Beynaud. The 2016 BET Awards will take place at the Microsoft Theater In Los Angeles, United States of America on Sunday, June 26.
