Prior to the launch of the 2016 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Kwabena Kwabena in an interview revealed that he has stopped attending VGMAs because, it’s now become a private party.
On Amanda Jissih’s show, he finally revealed why he stated that VGMAs has become a private party. According to him, it wasn’t in any bad taste that he described the award ceremony as a private party and that one of the many reasons he said that was because he thinks VGMAs has come of age to stop musicians from doing miming performances on their platform.
He said, “VGMAS is not an award ceremony because what happens at a private party? We have a DJ, he slots in CDS and back to back we are playing CDS and giving awards in between these performances and I can’t call this a music awards.”
He continued, “At the Grammy’s, you don’t see them slotting CDs and miming. No one pays 200GHc to come watch an artiste clothes or their shoes, so let’s give them something refreshing. You don’t expect people to pay money to sit at a concert and expect the musician to play the CD you’ve been playing in your car.” He ended.
Kwabena Kwabena is set to release his 5th studio album later next month.
