Many pundits and music fans have stood on the issue of transparency to argue that organizers of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) publish the results for accumulated votes.

After the results of 2016 VGMAs Unsung was shown on television, a section of the public have sought to ask if it is an indication that the results of the main categories will also be made public on the night of the event.

George Quaye, Public Relations Officer of Charterhouse, organisers of the annual Ghana Music Awards has explained that results of the Unsung was made public because it is an initiative; not a category.

Speaking to Abrantepa on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show Brunch2Lunch, George said the results for the categories will not be made public.

“The results will not be shown. It goes with international best practice. Which award scheme shows results? Unsung is not a competition. It is just to motivate these young chaps that there is a big world for them to take over. They get no plaque. We thought the public should know because it was 50% public votes. All the time, people say we should ascribe to international standards. I’ve never seen Grammys, Oscars publish results,” he noted.

Adomaa won the Unsung on Sunday as she beat competition from Nii Funny, Feli Nuna, Ebony Reigns, Perez and Wan O. Per the results, she secured 60% of the votes.

It would be recalled that Nii Ayittey Hammond, board chairman of the scheme, in an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Flex On Pluzz asked that any artiste who doubts the results should go to event statistician, KMPG.

“You can go to KPMG; you can get the results. You want to challenge it so go to them. They have the results; they have a reputation at stake. They sit at the venue till the event ends to ensure that what they submitted is what is being said,” he noted.
