Since the announcement of her nomination, a section of the public has argued that she does not deserve to be nominated. Afro/dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy, has urged Ghanaians to support MzVee despite arguments about whether she deserves the nomination at Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards or not.

Lynx Entertainment’s MzVee has been nominated in the Best International Act: Africa category. She secured nomination alongside AKA (South Africa), Black Coffee (South Africa), Cassper Nyovest (South Africa), Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Serge Beynaud (Cote D’ivoire), Wizkid (Nigeria) and Yemi Alade (Nigeria).

Since the announcement of her nomination, a section of the public has argued that she does not deserve to be nominated. Some have said that they expected either Sarkodie, Stonebwoy or EL to have earned the nomination since they did exceptionally well the year under review.

But speaking on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review on Saturday, Stonebwoy who was adjudged winner of the category in 2015 agreed that the nomination was a surprise to many. “When I got nominated, it was a surprise but majority of the people were behind me which was good. But with what I see now, it’s another element of surprise because taking myself out of it and what I heard on the streets and the expectations of majority of the people in Ghana,

I believe their predictions would have been other artistes instead of MzVee,” he said. Asked whether he thinks MzVee deserves the nomination, Stonebwoy replied, “honestly, the most important thing is to support whoever gets nominated. But definitely, you will have critics who analyse such headlines. That’s their work. But regardless, she is a good artiste as well. I understand the concerns from the people too.”
