The New Patriotic Party has warned it cannot guarantee peace after the elections if transparency and fairness is not ensured in the polls.“There ought to be a level playing field, if you don’t do so, you give me an impression that you are cheating me, twisting my arms, to even deny me what I have won, lots of things can happen.
“I cannot guarantee what will happen, the party cannot guarantee, we the executives, we who are at the top, the Presidential candidate cannot guarantee, if the ordinary people get angry, God forbid if they decide that they won’t agree to what is happening, and some people take the law into their own hands, what can we do?… Don’t rule out things could generate into something that we all don’t want,” acting chairman of the party Freddie Blay told Kumasi-based Ultimate FM in an interview.
According to him, although the party in ensuring the country’s democracy is sustained, it is incumbent on the Electoral Commission to ensure that the processes leading to the elections are fair and open.
