Former Chelsea and Barcelona striker says he  expects Swansea and Ghanaian midfielder Andre Dede Ayew to clinch the African player of the year awards on three occasions before retiring from football.

The Ex-Cameroonian striker said this during an interview with Ghana Sports’ editor Dan Kwaku Yeboah at his base in Antalya.

Ayew 27, failed to win the prestigious award in 2011 and 2015 losing out to Samuel Etoo and Dortmund’s Pierre Aubameyung respectively.

“Ayew can win the African player of the year awards, he has come close on two occasions and its likely he will win the next time, you know that is the African version of Ballon DO’r and its very important for an African player” he told the news paper.

He is still young and has a lot of potentials, he has been good for both club and country”.

“For me he is one of the best African players in Europe right now”.

“He is performing well in the English Premier League for Swansea and i think he can win the African Player of the year before he retires”.
